Dear Colleagues,
Healthcare Associated Infections (HCAI) are a major health management problem faced by the hospitals
worldwide, affecting 2-3 million people each year. HCAI as an issue of patient safety are frequently regarded
as violation of the medical plea of “premum non-nocere” (first do no harm). In this mileu lowering the rate of
nosocomial infection has become an even bigger challenge. Although COVID-19 pandemic has created
havoc in lives and minds of individuals and countries and has claimed millions of lives around the world and
continues to pose a major threat but the states cannot afford to undermine the burden of Nosocomial
Infections in the form of MRSA ESBLs, Amp C, MBLs including Vancomycin Resistant Enterococcus (VRE) and
thereby associated mortality, morbidity, the duration of hospital stay and economical fallout on its
prevention and control.
Infection control activity performed in 21st century hospitals is of crucial importance, nevertheless a great
deal more work is required to establish scientifically sound and affordable newer modalities and how best to
deliver it in a timely and cost-effective manner. The burden of HAI is several fold higher in low and middle
income countries than in high-income ones. Now, there is also a worldwide consensus that an urgent action
is needed to prevent and control the spread of antibiotic resistant organisms and in health care effective
infection prevention and control (IPC) is one solution. The financial benefit of using these prevention
practices is estimated worldwide to be $25 billion to $31.5 billion in medical cost savings.
Hospital Infection Society - India has one of its primary objective to disseminate information and recent
updates on various aspects of Healthcare associated Infections and their prevention and provide a common
platform for personnel active in the field of prevention of healthcare associated infections, viz.
Microbiologists, Administrators, Clinicians, etc.
It gives Hospital Infection Society an immense pleasure to announce HISICON 2021 on digital platform. The
theme of the XVII Annual Conference of the Hospital Infection Society - India is aptly chosen as “Healthcare
Associated Infections: Addressing challenges and unfolding the solutions in public and private sector”.
The conference is designed to provide the academic activity of the highest order, comprising lectures
symposia and interactive sessions in various areas of Healthcare Associated Infections (HCAI) on current
topics & techniques by reputed international and national faculty. There will be an opportunity for residents
and young doctors to expose themselves to the fundamentals in an interactive manner, so as to maximize
interest, knowledge retention and skill development.
We again cordially invite you to join us in this endeavour and enrich the digital conference by contributing
your vast, valuable experience.
Warm wishes and sincere regards
